NORTHPARK HISTORY NIGHT
My sincere thanks to all who attended and participated in our History Night last Sunday evening. A special word of thanks to Gerri Lynne Croley, Terrie Carlisle, Silbie Clark, Kathy Petersen & Jane Osborn who prepared and served the delicious meal.

We had several folks share some memories from specific seasons of our history. Dewayne Joyner informed us of our beginnings as part of First Church of God. Dwight Watts spoke of our early years as Parkview Church. Linda Arledge told of the transition to NorthPark Church. And Todd Mathis shared some more recent memories. There was a mixture of laughter, some tears, and several “AHA” moments.

Following these shared memories, everyone was invited to write out some of the life changing moments they have experienced at Parkview/NorthPark over the years. They were asked to write their memories to the following three questions and on the appropriate colored Post-it notes placed on each table:
1. Write some significant life events you experienced at NorthPark during each decade.
2. Write some joyful events or special victories NorthPark enjoyed during each decade.
3. Write some challenging seasons or painful events NorthPark endured during each decade.

Each recorded memory was then posted to one of the 8 “decade sheets” (1950-2020) hung around the Celebration Center. These same Post-it notes and decade sheets will be placed around the perimeter of the sanctuary for the next several weeks to allows others to write and post their memories. Please take some time to read and write some memories for others to enjoy.

After Kay Stewart gave an update from the Search Team on the search process, we concluded the evening with a time of prayer fashioned after our current Prayer Guide available at the Welcome Center or at  https://northpark.church/blog/2021/04/15/compositions-24. We thanked God for His faithfulness & promises and asked God to search our hearts & reveal any sinful acts or attitudes that need to be repented of & forgiven. We prayed for healing from past hurts, reconciliation & unity of the Spirit in the bond of love, and for the Search Team, Governance Board, Staff, and our next Lead Pastor. It was a great night to reminisce about the past as we anticipate the future!! NorthPark has an incredible past and a promising future. We thank God for His faithfulness in the past, we trust His promises for the futures, and we believe the best is yet to come! As the Chris Tomlin song “God of This City” boldly proclaims “greater things have yet to come, greater things are still to be done in this city”!

Stewardship & Finances
The good news is we are resuming some ministries & activities and our attendance continues to increase. The challenge is that these blessings result in increased costs and volunteers. The added expense of utilities, cleaning supplies, paper products, curriculum materials, and other resources necessitate an increase in our financial stewardship. And the added gatherings, activities, and increase in participation necessitates an increase in our time & talent stewardship. Interestingly, in our MESSY sermon series through 1 Corinthians the Apostle Paul addresses both these issues in chapters 12 and 16. Regarding giving, the Bible teaches proportional giving (tithing) and equal sacrifice, not equal giving. Regarding serving, the Bible teaches body life (spiritual gifts) and calls us to utilize our gift(s) in order for the body of Christ to be healthy and grow.

For His Glory,  Pastor Greg
