I COULDN’T SAY IT BETTER MYSELF

Bob Russell is a well-known Pastor, Teacher, and Author who retired in 2006 from a long and fruitful ministry with the great Southeast Christian Church in Louisville, KY. Now, through Bob Russell Ministries (www.bobrussell.org), he continues to preach at churches and conferences throughout the United States, provide guidance for church leadership, mentoring to other ministers and author Bible study videos for use in small groups. His current weekly blog is titled, ABORTION IS THE PRIMARY SOCIAL ISSUE in which he writes in part:

“I am unashamedly a pro-life voter.  That is the position I’ve taken for over 40 years.  Indeed, there are other important issues.  The candidate’s character, religious liberty, racial justice, the sacredness of the family, health care, immigration reform, foreign policy, law and order, taxes, and respect for the Constitution, these all matter as well.

However, the sanctity of life is paramount to me.  God’s Word says that God hates hands that shed innocent blood. (See Proverbs 6:17).  The Bible instructs us, “Rescue those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward slaughter. If you say, ‘But we knew nothing about this,’ does not he who weighs the heart perceive it?  Does not he who guards your life know it? Will he not repay everyone according to what they have done?” (Proverbs 24:11-12).

When I go to the election polls, my first question is, “Which of these candidates will likely do the most to reduce the number of abortions?”

Please take time to read the policy statements of the two major parties on abortion at http://www.bobrussell.org/abortion-is-the-primary-social-issue/  before you vote. Friends and fellow believers, please understand and hear my heart; this is not a political issue or a civil rights issue. This is a moral issue. God has spoken directly and clearly in Exodus 20:13. This is not up for debate or revision. Let the church take a stand and be the voice of truth!

There are two other foundational issues upon which a civil society is built and on which Christians should agree,….sanctity of marriage and religious freedom. Marriage is a covenantal union between one man and one woman (Genesis 1:27-28; 2:24). Religious freedom is the right to practice one’s religion without government prohibition, coercion, or persecution (Romans 13:1-5). Together these three foundational issues are like a tripod which is dependent on all three legs being intact to insure the stability and maintain the functionality for which it was designed. In the same way, all three of these foundational issues must remain intact to insure the stability and viability of a free and virtuous society.

I hope you will join me in praying for God’s direction and leading as we prepare to go to the poles on Tuesday, November 3rd. The Church of God is calling for a NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER from Noon on November 1st to Noon on November 2 and our Women’s Ministry is sponsoring a PRAYER WALK here this Sunday, November 1st from 2:00 -4:00 pm. Participants will walk around the parking lot for whatever amount of time they choose. There will be stations set up for you to stop, get a bottle of water, and read printed material to guide you through this time of prayer. In the event of bad weather, it will be moved indoors and we’ll walk around the gym and sanctuary.  For ideas, resources, and prayer guides click on this link https://www.jesusisthesubject.org/one-day-of-prayer/

Whatever the future may hold, we can trust the Sovereign God who works for good in every circumstance & situation (Romans 8:28-39) and has promised never to leave us or forsake us. (Psalm 118:5-9)

Blest to bless,

Greg Comp, Interim Pastor
