It's Great to be at NorthPark

Hello NorthPark friends and family! I want to take a few minutes of your time to connect and encourage you. It’s hard to believe Kathy & I have been in Meridian and privileged to serve at NorthPark for 7 weeks. As they say, “time flies when you are having fun”; and I am definitely having fun! Dan, Susie, Mark, Amy, Justin, and Jordan are a joy to work with every day and the Governance Board (Lillie, Rob, Terrie, Kelly, Dwayne, Marilyn, & Ron) has been extremely supportive. In addition, we have been warmly received by many faithful volunteers as well as the entire church family. Thank you all for your gracious welcome and positive encouragement!

A little bit about us. Kathy and I are living in a furnished apartment at 7832 Confederate Drive, just a mile away from the church. Kathy is a Realtor & has a small business Kathy Comp Interiors, so she spends a few days each week working in Nashville where all three of our adult children and their families live. I plan to travel home every other week, leaving on Thursday afternoon and returning late Saturday evening. My cell number is 270-261-2361, my email address is [email protected], and you are welcome to follow me on Facebook.

I intend to write a brief article/blog every week to help us stay in touch and build community. Sometimes it may be a devotional thought or a response to some current issue, and other times it will be an explanation of some upcoming plan or project. I hope you will find them helpful and I welcome any feedback. That said, allow me to highlight several significant upcoming events.

On Wednesday, October 28th we will be gathering to hear the CHURCH ASSESSMENT REPORT from our consultant, Lonnie Bullock. This will give us an accurate picture of NorthPark Church and provide a compelling vision for our future. We will assemble in the sanctuary at 6:00 pm.  Childcare from nursery through preschool will be available. We ask that everyone make it a priority to attend.

The following Wednesday, November 4th we will be launching a 6 week WEDNESDAY NITE FAMILY GATHERING. The format will provide something for everyone, allowing families to arrive and leave together, and will be a great way to introduce your friends to NorthPark Church. This gathering will begin with all church worship at 6:00, then we will move into our groups/classes at 6:30 where we will enjoy a time of fellowship & study from 6:45 to 8:00.

Next Sunday, November 1st we will be participating in an international Church of God prayer initiative called ONE MOVEMENT FOR ONE DAY OF PRAYER which will last from Noon on Sunday, November 1 to Noon on Monday, November 2. The theme for this day of prayer, based on 2 Chronicles 7:14, is to unite our voices in humility and repentance before God, trusting that He will restore our land. Our Women’s Ministry has planned a PRAYER WALK around our building on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 – 4:00 pm. Resources to guide you through this day are available by clicking on this link https://www.jesusisthesubject.org/one-day-of-prayer/

And finally, Sunday November 15th we will be celebrating BAPTISM SUNDAY at our 10:45 am service. If you have come to Jesus for salvation and have not been baptized, or if you were christened as a child as a result of your parents’ wishes and not due to a personal decision, we invite you to consider this opportunity. To help start conversations and answer questions Amy will be conducting a brief orientation for children and parents called JUMP START on Sunday, November 1st right after church, Justin will be offering a breakout session for youth on Wednesday, November 4th during youth group, and I will be leading a study for adults on Sunday, November 8th at 9:30 am in the Chapel. You may register through our website under Events at www.northpark.church or by calling the church office (601/482-1322) during regular business hours.

Thank you for taking the time to read this article/blog. I look forward to seeing you at some of these events and sharing with you here again next week.

Blest to bless,

Greg Comp, Interim Pastor
